The Effect of Broiler Breeder Strain and Parent Flock Age on Hatchability and Fertile Hatchability
نویسنده
چکیده
The effect of genetic strain (Ross 308; Cobb 500) and parent flock age (Ross at 32 and 36 weeks; Cobb at 26 and 44 weeks of age) on hatchability, fertile hatchability, Egg Weight Loss (EWL) and egg break out analysis were examined. At each flock age, 300 eggs from each treatment group were incubated. Thirty eggs from each treatment group were labeled individually for the measurements of Egg Weight Loss (EWL) and the newly hatched chicks from all groups were weighed individually. All the eggs that failed to hatch were examined for fertility and determine the embryo death cause. Data were analyzed by ANOVA for a randomized complete block design, using GLM procedure of SAS. Hatchability and fertile hatchability were affected by age of the breeder flock. Egg and chick weight were influenced by hen age (p<0.001), the older the hen the heavier the egg. Total egg weight loss from 1-19 d was significantly higher as percent for Cobb strain (p<0.001). Mid death of embryos as well as pips percentages were associated with eggs from older hens (p<0.01). In summary, hatching eggs produced by older broiler breeders have been shown to be larger in size and they also exhibit a reduced fertility. It is evident that egg management and incubation procedures need to be altered, as current recommended egg management and incubation procedures are not adjusted for breeder age.

Effect of flock age, length of egg storage, and frequency of turning during storage on hatchability of broiler hatching eggs.
Broiler hatching eggs from two young (30 and 31 wk) or two old (52 and 53 wk) breeder flocks were stored for 3, 7, or 14 d at 18 C and 75% RH while being turned 0, 4, or 24 times per day in two experiments. Apparent fertility and hatchability of total eggs differed with flock age in both experiments, but the effect was greater in Experiment 1. Hatchability of total and fertile eggs were decreas...

A total of 1 200 broiler breeder eggs were collected from a commercial flock at the hen age of 37 weeks and divided into storage treatments of 5 and 15 days. Prior to storage, the eggs were further divided into pre-storage incubation (PRESI) 0 (control), 4 and 8 h treatments. Eggs in the 4 and 8 h PRESI treatment were incubated at a standard dry-bulb temperature of 38.0°C. All eggs were weighed...

This study was undertaken to determine if pre-storage heating of broiler breeder eggs, stored for long periods, would improve the hatchability and chick quality. A total of 2400 broiler breeder eggs were obtained from a 46 weeks old commercial flock. Eggs were distributed in a 3 x 4 factorial design, with three pre-storage heating durations (0, 6, and 9 hours at 37.5° C and 56% RH) and four sto...
